Animal-rights group says it will use S.C. governor’s image instead

The animal-rights group PETA has put its plans “on hold” for a cheeky billboard with Tiger Woods‘ image.
Instead, the group plans to use South Carolina’s governor as the poster child to encourage people to spay and neuter pets.
The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals said it decided to temporarily abandon the idea of using Woods’ image for the ad after having “conversations” with the professional golfer’s attorneys. Woods is not affiliated with PETA and did not approve the billboard.
“In light of conversations we have had with Mr. Woods’ attorneys, plans to run our billboard are on hold at this time,” PETA said in a news release.
PETA officials would not comment on whether Woods’ attorneys threatened to sue after they announced earlier this week their plans to put the billboard in Windermere with the text: “Too much sex can be a bad thing… for little tigers too. Help keep your cats (and dogs) out of trouble: Always spay or neuter!”
PETA campaigners said they wanted to bring attention to the millions of cats and dogs that are killed each year in animal shelters.
The group is now working on a billboard using South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, PETA spokesman Michael Lyubinsky said. Sanford publicly revealed last year that he had an affair with an Argentine woman who he called his “soul mate.”
Officials with the governor’s office did not return a call seeking comment before deadline.
Woods’ attorney, Mark NeJame, declined to comment.

Called the Hotshot, the condom has been produced after government research showed 12 to14-year-olds did not use sufficient protection when having sex.
The study, conducted on behalf of the Federal Commission for Children and Youth, interviewed 1,480 people aged 10 to 20.
It showed more 12 to 14-year-olds were having sex, in comparison with the 1990s.
The Hotshot condoms, which cost 7fr60 (£4.70) for a packet of six, have been created by Lamprecht AG, a leading condom manufacturer in Switzerland.
The company has said the UK would be “top priority” if they expanded abroad, considering that it has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe.
Nysse Norballe, a spokesman for the company, said: “At the moment we are only producing the Hotshot in Switzerland. But the UK is certainly a very attractive market since there is a very high rate of underage conception. The UK would definitely be top priority if we marketed abroad.”
A standard condom has a diameter of 2ins (5.2cm) in comparison with the Hotshot’s diameter of 1.7ins (4.5cm). Both are the same length – 7.4ins (19cm).
According to a German study of 12,970 13 to 20-year-olds, a quarter said a standard condom was too large.
Family planning groups and the Swiss Aids Federation campaigned to have the Hotshot produced after a number of studies, including the government study researched at the Centre for Development and Personality Psychology at Basel University.
Nancy Bodmer, who headed the research, said: “The result that shocked us concerned young boys who display apparently risky behaviour. They have more of a tendency not to protect themselves. They do not have a very developed sexual knowledge. They do not understand the consequences of what they are doing and leave the young girls to take care of the consequences.
“The results of this study suggest that early prevention makes sense.”
The age of consent in Switzerland is 16, although if the age difference is not more than three years there will be no punishment. Other concessions exist if the older person is not more than 20 or believed the younger person to be at least 16.
The Swiss initiative comes as the UK government announces an overhaul of its teenage pregnancy strategy after new figures showed conception rate among 18s were not falling fast enough.
The UK has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe.
In 1999, the government pledged to halve the teenage conception rate within 10 years.
But data released last week from The Office for National Statistics shows it has clearly failed to make any significant impact.

Police: Man Offered Woman Asphalt For Sex
Billie Bobbie Harrison is charged with indecent exposure.

A North Carolina man was arrested after deputies say he exposed himself to a woman and offered to pave her driveway in exchange for sex. Billie Bobbie Harrison, 24, of Winston-Salem, is charged with one count of indecent exposure.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says Harrison and another man drove up to the home of a 55-year old Chesnee woman on Tuesday. The men asked her about paving her driveway. The victim says the conversation took a perverted turn when Harrison began to make sexual comments about her jewelry, then exposed himself to her and offered to pave the driveway in exchange for sex.
The victim went inside her house and called 911. Deputies pulled over the men’s truck not far from the home and arrested Harrison. He was released from jail early Wednesday morning after posting $3,000 bail.
Harrison denies exposing himself or making sexual comments. “I never showed her myself. I don’t know why they arrested me,” said Harrison during a phone interview.
Deputies say the woman, who is a Sunday school teacher, was able to provide specific details about Harrison’s underwear and other parts of his body.
The victim’s husband was irate when he came home minutes after the men left and his wife told him what happened.
“I asked the deputy if he could give me five minutes alone with him before they hauled him away, but they wouldn’t let me,” said the husband.
Flight Attendants Object to Airliner’s Scandalous Swimsuit Model Decal

The Florida-based AirTran airways is under fire for the scantily clad by-products of its alliance with Sports Illustrated, specifically the rendering of a swimsuit model on the side of one of AirTran’s Boeing 737s. The company’s flight attendants, citing moral folly, are not pleased.
“It is our feeling that this is not only contrary to the family image that this company tries to promote, but also potentially offensive to their female employees, the majority of their flight attendants who will have to work on this aircraft,” AirTran’s Association of Flight Attendants objected, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Additionally, the AFA suggested the image of the gal in the swimsuit “creates a potential for verbal abuse by male passengers.”
AirTran has simply said that the partnership is ending soon anyway, so when that happens, the problem will be solved.
