This afternoon I finally had an opportunity to read Obama’s Cairo speech and I was dumbfounded to understand why the below was included at the end of the speech:

“We see it in the history of Andalusia and Cordoba during the Inquisition. I saw it firsthand as a child in Indonesia where devout Christians worshiped freely in an overwhelmingly Muslim country.”

“This tolerance is essential for religion to thrive. But it’s being challenged in many different ways. Among some Muslims, there’s a disturbing tendency to measure one’s own faith by the rejection of somebody else’s faith.”

…”it is important for Western countries to avoid impeding Muslim citizens from practicing religion as they see fit, for instance, by dictating what clothes a Muslim woman should wear.”

Was this specifically added to the speech after the Air France disaster?  If so, why and who specifically is he talking to?  We are told that Mr. Obama is a scholar and Ivy League educated.  He is a student of religion and its history and I can’t figure out why he would have made such an incorrect version of the Iberian history?  This was no mistake?  Did the speech writer insert this section because of Intel briefings on Flight 447?

The American Government knows far more than what is being written and stated in the media on the Argentine Bomb Threat,  Rio Airport bomb threat, and probable clause of the Air France Flight 447 disaster.   My daughter and granddaughter will be flying next week.  The American public deserves to know that we can fly without the worry of air safety or terrorism.

AF-447: the case of faulty probe questioned

The Washington Post, (Susan Jacoby), gave the President a C- “for honesty about religion” and offers the below in her “On Faith” response to his speech:

He exaggerated the virtues of all religions–not only Islam–and simply ignored the historical fact that religious liberty for all is a secular principle born of the Enlightenment. He also failed to note that dominant majority religions had to be dragged kicking and screaming to accept freedom of conscience for others within their sphere.

“Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance,” he told his audience at Cairo University. “We see it in the history of Andalusia and Cordoba during the Inquisition.”

Actually, Obama has his timeline wrong. It was before the Inquisition, during the period known as the convivencia on the Iberian peninsula, that Muslims, Jews, and Christians lived in the same cities and developed a culture not of “tolerance” in the modern sense but of cross-fertilization of ideas.

That came to an end with the Christian reconquest and union of Spain and the final expulsion of both Jews and Muslims in 1492. And the tolerant side of Islam lost out after the expulsion from Spain. (For more on this subject, see Ornament of the World, by Maria Rosa Menocal.

Apparently BO’s speech was not heard in Iraq and Pakistan. From yesterday’s headlines:

“PESHAWAR, Pakistan – An attacker wearing an explosive vest blew himself up inside a packed mosque during Friday prayers, killing at least 30 and wounding 40 more in northwest Pakistan, officials said.”

In 711, the Umayyads invaded the Iberian peninsula and had it subdued by 718.  Their reach extended into France, with their advance stopped at the Battle of Tours in 732, with Muslim control of some French territory lasting until 975.

Muslim control over Spain and Portugal lasted until 1492.  Islam’s last great threat to conquer Europe was stopped in 1683, when the Ottoman Turk advance were broken at the gates of Vienna.

Islam divides the world into the Ummah, AKA the worldwide Islamic community, and everyone else.  Another term for Ummah is Dar al-Islam, or house of Islam, in contrast to the Dar al-Harb, or “House of War.”  That’s the Muslim term for lands not under Islamic rule, which should tell you something about how they view us.

In fact, the words Obama disingenuously quoted out of context in his speech are from the Treaty of Tripoli, precursor to US Naval action, in which the US first tried to buy off the Barbary Pirates.  Just as earlier Danegeld paid by Dark Age princes failed to forestall future Viking predation, this early American attempt at appeasing Muslim agression failed to protect American citizens, necessitating a military solution.

Today, we remember this episode of early American history in the Marines’ Hymn, “From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli….”   Only after we sent the US Navy and Marines to North Africa to clean house did the Barbary Pirates stop attacking our ships and enslaving Americans.

INFORMAÇÕES SOBRE AS BUSCAS DO VOO 447 DA AIR FRANCE
