No Men in The White House

American Thinker – By Richard F. Miniter

More tragedies wherein we have to listen to a political operative like Leon Panetta reference some completely fictitious military maxim that you never send a force in without knowing exactly what’s happening on the ground.

More calamities where what we don’t hear is that someone like General Petraeus, who is supposed to be a soldier, ended his career by refusing to abandon his men — indeed, wherein not even one man in the White House Situation Room, in uniform or not — not one diplomat in the loop at State, not one senior CIA official, not one Naval officer offshore, not one serving general in the multitude of American commands in Europe would sacrifice his career in order to save them.

In consequence, the head honcho, Barack Obama, for however long he remains in office, and his successors get to decide everything — whether or not Navy snipers can pull their triggers and rescue Captain Richard Phillips from pirates in the Indian Ocean, whether to launch Osama bin Laden’s elimination inside Pakistan, or even whether or not a soldier shot down in front of a U.S. Army recruiting station by a jihadist trained in Yemen gets awarded the Purple Heart.

…the Libyan debacle itself had more than enough yellow-belly soup sloshing around in it to paint the White House, Foggy Bottom, and the upper echelons of the CIA a bright canary, but the answer to the fundamental question of why it happened is the fact that we still have the same organizational structure, and way of thinking, which brought us Black Hawk Down.

Take Barack Obama’s iron determination never to offend the Muslim world — never, that is, to underscore its weakness by making another boots-on-the-ground war in some part of it.  He said as much on his original “apology tour” in Cairo; he demonstrated it in his abandonment of Iraq and via his determination to withdraw from Afghanistan — not because it’s a “worthless piece of dirt,” as Colonel Ralph Peters so aptly described it, but simply because it’s in his mind morally correct to do so.  You can see it in one Ramadan dinner after another at the White House, his enthusiastic bowing, his description of the Muslim call to prayer as the most beautiful sound there is…

Knows they can’t dispatch a U.S. Marine infantry company from offshore to our ambassador’s rescue, know they can’t allow former SEALs in the CIA to launch a rescue mission or Delta Force people positioned in Italy to fly in.  Knows that under no circumstances can they authorize anything except an anonymous drone looksee, because boots on the ground can’t be tolerated.  Not by the big boss upstairs in the family quarters busy packing for Vegas.

Yet how embarrassed and chagrined the sycophants in Barack Obama’s Situation Room must have been by the heroics of two American former SEALs who disobeyed orders twice repeated, rescued whomever they could from the besieged consulate, and then died defending them.  But how embarrassed and chagrined we should be at the leadership which let them die rather than stand up to Barack Obama.  Because if the people among that leadership had but half the courage of those two Navy SEALs who disobeyed direct orders and saved the Americans at the consulate, Obama, with only weeks to go before his hoped for re-election, would have folded, because he is not a brave man himself — only clever and calculating.

The Wages of Libya

NRO – By Victor Davis Hanson

Careers have ended over less than the administration cover-up.

Seven weeks after the tragedy in Benghazi, new government narratives just keep appearing, as various branches of government point the finger at one another. Now the president insists that “the minute” he “found out what was going on” he gave “very clear directives” to “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to.” The secretary of defense argues that he knew too little to send in military forces to save the post. Meanwhile, we are hearing from other sources that the beleaguered compound in extremis was denied help on three separate occasions, and there are still more contradictory accounts.

When the government systematically misleads and cannot establish a believable narrative, almost everyone involved is eventually tarred. The final chart of those officials in the Nixon White House who were devoured by Watergate was vast — and so it is becoming with the disaster in Libya. If we have learned anything from Watergate and Iran-Contra, it is that the longer officials deceive and obfuscate, the greater the number of wrecked careers and reputations.

President Obama still does not grasp the significance of Libya. When he calls the attacks there and in Egypt “bumps in the road” or “not optimal,” and asserts that they will not play much of a role in the final weeks of the campaign, he sounds either callous or naïve or both. Collate the administration’s statements over the two weeks following the attacks, and they simply cannot be true. The months-old video proved just too much of a temptation for the president to resonate the themes of his Cairo speech in damning uncouth Americans for offending Muslims. When the president claims that he ordered everything to be done to save the compound, he must be aware that subordinates who did not in turn give orders that relief be sent will eventually come forward to either affirm or deny his statement…

Benghazi was a disaster, whose graphic details most Americans do not fully know and, in some sense understandably, do not wish to relive. Still, we await two simple clarifications: an administration timeline of exactly who was notified, in what manner, and when on the night of the attack, and a full release of all information detailing the administration reaction to the murders, from the hours in which the attack occurred to the present day.

Without that honesty, those responsible will only continue to weave their tangled Libyan web.

Raymond Smith grieves for son Sean Smith, killed in Benghazi, Libya attack

10 News – Tampa Bay FL – By Eric Glasser

Gulfport, Florida — While the country still waits for answers about last month’s attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, it’s become personal for a Bay area father.

Raymond Smith’s son, Sean Smith, was among those killed.

The Gulfport man was watching flag-draped coffins returning to the U.S. on the news when they flashed photos of the victims.

And there among them was his son.

“He was murdered. He was murdered,” said Raymond Smith.

As a disabled Vietnam Veteran, Ray Smith, 63, has long lived with physical injury and psychological pain. But his heart is now broken too.

“I want them to get the people who did this,” says Smith.

“They haven’t done anything. My son and them dialed 911 for help and they wouldn’t help them,” added Smith. “I want whoever did this, whoever didn’t answer their phone, I want them brought to justice too.”

For now, Ray Smith has only a nylon flag and a small plaque dropped at his doorstep to recognize his son’s sacrifice, working for the State Department in Benghazi.

John Ward – General Ham : The Pentagon’s ‘Normal Succession’ Line Simply Isn’t Kosher – Why The Rogue Benghazi Compound General Was Fired – 30 October 2012

“Ham was about as ready to retire as Warren Buffet,” says my Washington source, “He got retired is what happened. The guy made everyone nervous because he actually believed in what he was doing. That never plays well in this town”.

I’ve contacted this source many times; as usual, his asessment checks out. General Carter Ham is a hardline anti-extremist God Bless America gung-ho soldier. On June 25th this year, he told Defense News, “there are indications extremist organisations are seeking to coordinate and synchronize their efforts…. to establish a cooperative effort amongst the three most violent organizations, and I think that’s a real problem for us, and for Africa’s security in general.

Al-Qaida in the Lands of the Islamic Maghreb and Boko Haram may be sharing funds, training and explosive materials. There very truly are those who wish to undermine the formation of [a post-Gadaffi Libyan] government,” he said. “And again, we see some worrying indicators that al-Qaida and others are seeking to establish a presence in Libya.”

Ham’s successor David M. Rodriguez is also made of four-star stuff: but according to my Washington contact, “not media savvy at all. I think this is why he got passed over for the top job in Afghanistan. He’s only interested in soldiering, not selling.”

Equally clear, however, is that running Africom hadn’t been anywhere in his ‘planned succession’ intentions. For in July last year, he was sent back to Washington and a desk job. So after just eleven months of doing this, he is ‘routinely’ chosen to succeed a General – one who may well think, in private, that the President is a traitor.

There’s more yet to all of this, primarily I suspect because it isn’t a conspiracy theory: the Obama side has clearly found something with which to shut up all the major antagonists – something so powerful that it’s quite happy to be loose about stopping a whole range of divergent stories from leaking out. There is no conspiracy here, only a riddle: what is the nuclear option that the Obama White House threatened to use?

Facebook Censors Navy SEALS to Protect Obama on Benghazi-Gate

Breitbart – By AWR Hawkins

Over the weekend, Facebook took down a message by the Special Operations Speaks PAC (SOS) which highlighted the fact that Obama denied backup to the forces being overrun in Benghazi.

The message was contained in a meme which demonstrated how Obama had relied on the SEALS when he was ready to let them get Osama bin Laden, and how he had turned around and denied them when they called for backup on Sept 11.

I spoke with Larry Ward, president of Political Media, Inc — the media company that handles SOS postings and media production. Ward was the one who personally put the Navy SEAL meme up, and the one who received the warning from Facebook and an eventual 24 hour suspension from Facebook  because Ward put the meme back up after Facebook told him to take it down.

Here’s what Ward told me:

We created and posted this meme on Saturday after news broke that Obama had known and denied SEALS the backup they requested.

Once the meme was up it garnered 30,000 shares, approx. 24,000 likes, and was read by hundreds of thousands of people — all within 24 hrs. On Sunday, I went into the SOS Facebook page to post something else and found a warning from Facebook that we had violated Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities with our meme. So I copied the warning, put it on the meme as as caption, and re-posted the meme to the Facebook page.

Along with the re-posted meme, Ward put a link to the Facebook “feedback comment” inbox so visitors to the SOS page could send a message to Facebook if they were as outraged over the meme being jerked down as he was.

Ward said Facebook pulled the re-posted meme down within 7 or 8 hours and suspended the SOS account for 24 hours.

In other words, Facebook put the Navy SEALS in timeout in order to shield Obama.

How low can you go?
